Sabin

(Portland Portable Works Collection)

2023

In this painting, I incorporate imagery from Slavic folk fairy tale books, depicting the movement of the trees and roosters sitting on the branches, along with the Sabin HydroPark water towers. These towers symbolize my home in Portland and are a constant in my daily life. The painting encapsulates a visual representation of a state familiar to immigrants, where the intertwining of here and there, then and now, childhood and adulthood, fairy tale, and reality all meld together, offering a glimpse into the complex and layered experiences of immigrants.
